HELEN Flanagan has confessed that she didn’t realise I’m A Celeb would be so intense admitting that she “thought we’d kind of chill around the campfire in a bikini and make friends”.
The former soap star had to take on SEVEN bushtucker trials in a row while she was in the jungle but won a new legion of fans when she showed off her enviable figure in a range of swimwear.
She told ITV1’s Lorraine this morning: “When I signed to go on I’m A Celebrity I didn’t actually really take the trials into too much consideration because I didn’t think I would be doing so many trials.
“I thought I’d do one or two and I’ll give it my best and I’m strong-minded, I’m sure I’ll be fine. I suppose I didn’t realise the implications really.
“I just thought we’d kind of chill around the campfire in a bikini and make friends.
“I didn’t realise it was just going to be so intense.”
The actress, 22, admitted she was surprised to leave the ITV1 reality show.
She said: “I think I only got up 10 minutes beforehand.”
“I actually was very shocked. I thought I was probably going to stay another night or two more.”
Helen also revealed that she has the option to return to soapland as Corrie have not ruled out a return.
She said: “I’m very, very fortunate that the door has been left open for me for Coronation Street, that’s amazing and I’m really lucky there.
“I just kind of take things how they come, see how I feel. I don’t think you can really plan things.
“There are lots of things that I would love to do but I just see how I feel at the time and take things one step at a time really.”
After her exit, Helen, who was repeatedly voted by the public to take part in tasks – and, in a new record, failed to earn any food for her starving celebrity pals over five trials – said: “The jungle is your life for those weeks, it’s crazy. But I’m proud of myself because I feel like I’ve done my best.
“Every day it was trial time, it was like doom. Some people got a bit irritated but I genuinely loved everyone in the camp.”
The ex-Corrie babe denied she had entered the jungle with a ‘game plan’, adding: “I’d like David to win.
“I completely wish it (not doing the trials) had been a game plan. It was so humiliating, I’ll never be able to live it down. If I was going to be a girl who did it every time I would have,” she said.
Helen later added on the ITV2 spin-off show: “I’m just so happy to see my mum, I’m really overwhelmed. I didn’t expect to go out today but now I’m out I’m more than happy.
