TOWIE fans took to Twitter last night to slam the show’s shambolic, gaffe-filled live episode.
The cringeworthy 45-minute broadcast saw the stars struggling to keep up conversation, being cut off mid-sentence and performing a series of shocking skits.
@EmMawdsley tweeted: “How cringy was TOWIE Live?! I watched 40 seconds and wanted to throw up.”
And @Aaron_Bumby added: “Gonna be having nightmares about Towie live tonight! #shocking.”
Meanwhile @s0phbury wrote: “this live ep has just literally ruined towie.”
And @joeycaldecott said: “So far the best thing about TOWIE live is the adverts.”
Former TOWIE star Maria Fowler also appeared shocked by the chaos surrounding the live show.
She tweeted: “What the hell is this towie live? Only just switched it on?”
While former Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles wrote: “9:59pm: I never ever watch Towie but Towie Live.. I gotta watch this. 10:16pm: I’m speechless…”
The ITV2 show began with the cast arriving at a theatre for Arg’s charity night along with “celebrity guests” including a Colin Farrell lookalike and DJ Pat Sharp.
James “Arg” Argent was then seen running around backstage minus his trousers.
It turned out Nanny Pat had stolen his kegs, but luckily she returned them before he made his way on to stage, swearing and doing his flies up.
Then as Arg was half way through a sentence introducing the night producers cut to Chloe Sims and her cousin Joey Essex sitting backstage.
Joey, 22, asked Chloe, 30, what she would say if he proposed to his girlfriend Sam Faiers live on the show.
She pleaded: “Please tell me you haven’t got a ring… You are definitely not proposing yet.”
Lydia Bright’s mum Debbie Douglas was then seen taking the stage to perform a mindboggling sketch with pal Carol Wright.
Debbie, 53, arrived on stage dressed up as an “Essex girl” to the tune of The Pussycat Dolls’ Don’t Cha.
She then introduced Carol, 51, who climbed out of a basket on stage wearing a bizarre mask on her face.
The camera then suddenly cut to Gemma Collins, 31, and Bobby Cole Norris, 24, chatting loudly in the middle of the audience discussing why they hadn’t been allowed to perform in the show.
Eventually Cara Kilbey and Billi Mucklow, both 24, who were sitting behind the pair, interrupted and told them to be quiet.
As the scene returned to the stage Carol was seen leaning to fetch something out of another basket, but accidentally toppled off her chair, leading to perhaps the biggest laugh of the night.
The next scene saw Sam sitting backstage with Kirk Norcross, 24, discussing how TOWIE new girl Jasmin went on a date with both him and Charlie King on the same night.
Sam, 21, slammed her, saying: “The girl’s lost her morals, you just don’t do stuff like that.”
Then Kirk admitted to her that he had rekindled his romance with former flame Lauren Pope.
Back on stage pop star wannabe Jessica Wright’s stint on the live show saw her lip-synching along to her new song and performing an out of time dance.
As the show cut back to Kirk and Sam the pair sat awkwardly not talking waiting to be told by the crew when to begin chatting again.
After the first break, Charlie, 26, took to the stage to perform a cringeworthy dance routine to J-Lo’s On The Floor, and prove that he officially can’t sing.
While backstage Lauren, 30, revealed to Chloe and Frankie Essex how she had spent the night round at Kirk’s house.
Meanwhile Joey revealed to pal James “Diags” Bennewith that he was feeling a lot of pressure to propose to Sam and was really confused about the whole situation.
As Arg sang and danced along to Singin’ In The Rain, his ex-girlfriend Lydia Bright told mum Debbie how she had come to the show to support her and the charity — Breast Cancer Care — and not for the chubby crooner’s benefit.
Another quick scene change saw Joey asking: “Now?” to producers before starting to chat to Mario Falcone and Tom Pearce.
An awkward few moments then saw the boys trying to find something to do and say to fill the time and looking obviously at the producers for guidance.
Back on stage Chloe and Diags performed an ear-splitting version of Aqua’s Barbie Girl as Frankie and Lauren danced in the background.
Then followed the obligatory row scene, this time featuring Charlie confronting Jasmin over her dating both him and Kirk.
Charlie raged: “You’re pathetic, you’ve made me look like a mug, you’ve made yourself look like a mug.”
Jasmin tried to defend herself saying: “I’m single, I can do what I like.”
Before Charlie stormed off and Jasmin added: “Yeah well done, you’ve made yourself look really good there.”
Following a second ad break a host of the cast were seen jumping around wildly miming to One Direction’s Live While We’re Young.
To the side of the stage Lydia was seemingly still chatting to mum Debbie and Nanny Pat, when Arg arrived in shot.
But the stars were unaware that the cameras were on them yet, and Pat was heard telling an out of breath Arg: “Well you should have lost a bit of weight then shouldn’t ya.”
The crew were then heard shouting: “Go, go, go” to tell the trio to begin their scene as other show members yelled at the star that he should be somewhere else.
Arg told them “No”, before quizzing Lydia about why she had come along to his show, and she revealed that she was only there to support the charity.
Viewers then struggled to hear the rest of the set-up confrontation as Arg’s mic seemed to fail and the noise from the stage overpowered them.
Meanwhile Kirk was the only surprise of the night, performing a not completely atrocious version of Ain’t That A Kick In The Head.
The show then finished with Sam and Joey discussing whether or not Joey was ready to propose to her.
Joey looked genuinely confused, stressed and upset by the scene, which saw him telling the blonde: “I’m well stressed out.
“People keep talking and it’s really stressing me out, one minute I want to propose the next I don’t.”
He added: “I feel like people are just putting pressure on me all the time.”
Sam told him: “I’m happy as we are, there’s no pressure.”
He then revealed: “Sometimes I’m just scared we’re going to break up… I just want to stop rowing.”
He added: “I don’t want to talk about marriage no more… I need to go outside, I can’t do this any more.”
Viewers were left to guess whether Joey was supposed to have popped the question, broken up with blonde, or simply put to bed the rumours that they were going to get engaged.
